An Art Deco Inspired Vaporizer Battery
A modular vaporizer battery in every sense of the word.
My business partners wanted these parts made by metal injection molding which I now know would have been perfectly fine. Unfortunately, at the time I was too proud and too ignorant to understand how catastrophically expensive each unit would be.
I had hoped that selling multiple relatively inexpensive body panels would have shored up the sales problems, but that was not the case. Between the advanced control board and CNC machined body, I couldn’t have possibly retailed this for an inexpensive enough price to warrant its existence and I was too obstinate to sell it for a price that would entice resellers.
This was my single greatest learning experience and my final big one before starting to freelance in design, and learn how to program CNC machines with nothing but community support.
This line of products utlized the, at the time, most advanced control board available in the industry, the DNA 150. I wanted to create an atomizer that was unmistakable, but so signature in its appearance that it couldn’t possibly be mistaken for another. These boxes were massive, made of machined stainless steel and anodized aluminum.
The steel parts came in chrome and gloss black finishes, and the body panels came in 7 colors. The rings at the top came in a variety of diameters to blend the most common diameters (26, 22, and 18mm) into the hulking 30mm thick box.
Curved on the back side and flat on the front, I learned more about manufacturing from this one product than any other, and I learned it the hard way.
